NO HST ON UTILITIES FOR HOMEOWNERS

COA stands behind "No HST" on utilities for homeowners.

CONDO OWNERS AND HOMEOWNERS across Ontario

"SAY NO to HST on Utilities"

A Condominium budget experiences about 30% of their operating budget for utitility costs.  Are the utility companies making a fortune from the on going construction of new condos and the existing condominiums?

COA is requesting full accountability from the Ontario Government for a breakdown of utility costs across the Province of Ontario.  COA wants to know exactly how much is being paid out on HST to cover utilitities province wide.  In one sense the Government is saying they are concerned about the rising cost of energy for homeowners yet they then tack on an additional HST.   The media has ask "Is the McGuinty Government mismanaging the electricity system"?  COA reviewed substantial documentation on discussions between the Government, Energy Consultants, Ontario Energy Board, Ontario Hydro and OPG.  At the end of the day there is always a substantial increase but NO WHERE is the additional HST added into the quoted increase amounts.

In May 2010, the Ontario Government ordered the Province's Crown-owned electricity utilities to cancel their requests for hydro rate increases because they were worried about consumer backlash over soaring power costs. The Government's rate-setting process is designed to take the politics out of electricity pricing because it was determined that Condo Owners and Homeowners are already facing increases of $300 more a year on average to keep the lights on by the end of 2011.  Hundreds of thousands of pages of documents were already printed by Hydro One when they received word to stop their application process.  Hydro One was seeking 22 per cent over two years while Ontario Power Generation was seekng 9.6 per cent rate increase effective next January.  This would be equivalent to approx. $2.75 a month for an average household...but what about Condominiums?
